DO YOU WANT TO BETTER OUR GRADS AND ENSURE THEY ARE WORK READY?

WORK-BASED LEARNING WEBINAR - Connecting Higher Education, The Industry and Future Talents

Malaysians are rightfully worried about the quality of graduates that we are producing the last many years.
More and more graduates are facing unemployment. The industry sees a widening gap between what the institutions of learning produce and what industry expects in terms of both technical and soft skills – especially life skills like adaptability, language and people skills.
Can Work-Based Learning help address the situation?
Join us tomorrow not just as a an attendee, but participate with readied questions and ideas.

In recent years, WORK-BASED LEARNING (WBL) has captured a lot of interest as a model for tertiary education and human capital development. WBL is viewed positively as a more flexible, balanced and holistic approach towards education. The curriculum for WBL is WORK: on-the-job learning. Knowledge is presented in the form of practical use, not just theory. As such, WBL is able to produce graduates who are more ready and relevant to the world of work.
However, the WBL approach is still new. There is an urgent need to connect higher education, the industry and future talents better. More is needed in the partnership between Higher Education bodies and the Industry (both private and public).
This partnership must take into account not just people-to-people collaboration but that of process, structure and the application of knowledge. It is important that both the industry and institutions of higher education understand and agree on the conceptual framework and the purpose of WBL.
WORK-BASED LEARNING will only be successful if the FOCUS is on STUDENTS – the learner.
It is key for us to ask, “What are the best ways to ensure that learning is carried out according to the needs of the students, so that they acquire the right skills, attitudes and behaviours to be successful in the job market?”
