1Malaysia: The way ahead
By DR CHANDRA MUZAFFAR
Besides the Government, all strata of Malaysian society must commit to the challenge of transforming the concept into reality by bridging existing gaps.
IN his royal address in conjunction with the King’s birthday on June 6, 2009, His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, called upon all Malaysians to make the ‘1Malaysia’ concept central to their lives.
On the same occasion, the proponent of the concept, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, made it explicitly clear that in its quest for national unity, 1Malaysia will be guided by the Malaysian Constitution.
This clarification is important since it defines what the 1Malaysia quest is and what it is not.

"That is why 51 years after Merdeka, a huge segment of the non-Malay population refuses to acknowledge the Malay root of the nation’s identity even though it is so much a part of our political and cultural landscape.
ReplyDeleteLikewise, a sizeable section of the Malay population is reluctant to recognise the legitimacy of the non-Malay yearning for equality inherent in their status as long domiciled citizens of the land."
See, this problem would not arise should the citizens of Malaysia be allowed to integrate with each other in ONE SCHOOL SYSTEM , at a very young age. Children are born with a pure heart, it is us the adults who instill racism into them. Mixing them together at an early age would breed a new generation that will not enhance the quoted above. Racism is brought about when the races do not understand each other, and what humans don't understand, fear and mistrust generates.
What is lacking in our constitution is not another great idea, rather, the insistence of their implementations.....lets not talk about muhibbah if we are not ready to talk about sincerity...
Salam Sejahtera Anas,
ReplyDeleteTerimakasih PahNur kerana menyokong "ONE SCHOOL SYSTEM".
Prof. Khoo Kay Kim pernah berkata, "we still cannot accept the truth behind it" (di sini)
Melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya, seperti yang PahNur kata, "Mixing them together at an early age would breed a new generation ....."
Harapan saya agar kita semua dapat "contribute a little something towards Unity".
Salam Sejahtera,
"SATU BANGSA, SATU NEGARA, SATU BAHASA"
