Our healthcare is one of the best out there. Practicing the
universal healthcare, our system aims to provide affordable or even free health
care for all Malaysians.
Government hospitals supply free medicine to qualified
patients on monthly basis. These medicines can cost hundreds of ringgit per
patient, and all you have to do to get the help is by filling out an
application form.
There are many other programs that help patients get their
medicine, such as the Tabung Bantuan Perubatan by the Ministry of Health and by
the state’s Baitulmal. These programs have allowed less fortunate patients to
have better health without spending a fortune, as one would have if he were to
turn to private healthcare.
For instance, my Umi has BP and osteoporosis gets her
monthly supply of medicine from the Penang General Hospital. The accompanying
picture shows her collection of monthly medicine.
For patients of chronic illnesses such as heart condition,
asthma, epilepsy, and diabetes, they have to depend on medication to live
normally. The cost of their monthly supply of antibiotics, penicillin, and
minerals can burn some deep holes in one’s pocket. With the hospital aid, these
patients benefit from better quality in life.
And I say, this is one of the nice things we Malaysians
enjoy.
