It is that time of the year again. Hari Raya, Eid al-Fitr,
Ramazan Bayrami, Lebaran - no matter what one calls it, today marks the
beginning of the Raya season. A time when Muslims all over the world celebrate
the success of Ramadhan.
The season is also perhaps one of the best time to share the
many wondrous tales of the wise Hikayats
(folk stories/sagas) of our nenek
moyang (ancestors). After all, this is when the old and the young
will be under the same roof, when family and friends get together. On top of
the sharing of stories and memories, we can take the opportunity to share
magnificent Hikayats
of bygone days.
For the #SaySomethingNice campaign, Zalina Aziz (fondly
known as Ninot) will also share many Hikayats
that she has meticulously researched and collected in her A Hikayat A Day
initiative. A prolific folklorist, poet, and writer, Ninot has teamed up with
Malek Rahim, a brilliant illustrator, to provide us with vibrant and rich
drawings of the many Hikayats.
The result has been nothing short of spectacular.
Bernama Radio24 has agreed to allocate air time for Ninot to
share her collection of
Hikayats. She will be on air every weeknight from 1 August 2013
onwards on the station's 8TO12 show. Definitely something to look forward to
this Raya month.
On that note, allow us to wish all our Muslim brothers and
sisters a very Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, maaf zahir batin.
Lumrah

Salam
Aidilfitri dari zubedy,
Salah
silap, harap diampun.
