Dear Malaysian Politicians

A letter of appeal to Malaysians Politicians.

We are carrying this message in a full page advert in the Star tomorrow. Pls forward, email, blogpost, facebook this message if you share the same sentiments, thanx, anas zubedy

Dear Malaysian Politicians,

Please stop the power chase, call for a truce and focus on the economy.

I do not claim to speak on behalf of all Malaysians, but I have strong convictions that many share my sentiments.

Our concern today is not who rules the country or heads the state governments but the looming bad economy.

Whether Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat leads, it is meaningless if Malaysians have no job to go to, no money to pay rent and no means to put food on the table.

I am a business owner, like other business owners and managers of corporations I have a responsibility to ensure people under my care and payroll continue to have jobs and a decent income to take home. We work hard and willing to go the extra mile to make sure our nation not only survive this crisis but come out stronger and wiser. We need your help.

Let me explain. I am in the business of Training, Development and Consultancy and have 20 people in my team.

Saedah is 42. She keeps the office clean and helps organise the training rooms. She has four children and her husband is unemployed. She was first hired on a part time basis, because she is very hard working and has a great attitude, we offered her a full time job to help provide a stable income for her family. Even then, when her third child started school this year, it was a struggle for her to buy new school uniforms and other necessities. Saedah lives on a ‘kais bulan, makan bulan’ basis, so, if she is jobless, her tap runs dry.

Samsuri is 27 years old. He lives with his sister and her family in a low cost government flat in Sunway. He does our despatch, helps with various clerical works and occasionally acts as a driver. During the first week at zubedy, we learned that he not only did not have money to buy new clothes and shoes for work, he had no money for lunch. Like Saedah, if he has no job, his tap runs dry too.

Alicia in Client Servicing turns 26 this year. She lives with her dad who is 71 years old and retired. Her mom passed away when she was little. Alicia is a hard-working team member, has a gentle caring outlook and fun to be with. (We like to poke fun at her as she blushes easily). Last May her dad went through a major operation, thank God he has recovered well. Alicia needs a job, both for herself and her dad.

Sudesh, 38, is one of our facilitators. When his father passed away last year, he moved back and lives with his mother in Seremban. He shuttles between Kuala Lumpur and Seremban daily, leaving home sometimes as early as 4 in the morning and returning late at night. He is no stranger to hard work and sacrifice, he knows what he needs to do to survive and to care for his mother, but he too needs a job.

Like fellow Malaysians, every one of us in zubedy needs employment, those that live from hand to mouth like Saedah and Samsuri and others like Alicia and Sudesh with family to care for. We Malaysians need the Malaysian economy to be strong. We need you, our leaders, to work hard and to work together to make our economy viable.

So this is my plea.

Pakatan Rakyat, please stop your attempts to take over the federal government and persuade BN’s lawmakers to join you. Stop all legal proceedings, no more 916 and let go, just let go. The nation can wait till the next general elections if they want change. By doing so, Malaysians will see your party as caring, unselfish and gracious and give you their support in the next elections.

Barisan Nasional, please stop any attempts to take over PR states and win over PR’s lawmakers. You have proven your point with Perak. The nation can wait for the next general elections if they want your party. Focus all your talent, energy and hard work in steering the country out of an economic downturn. By doing so, Malaysians will see your party as caring, unselfish and smart and give you their support in the next elections.

BN and PR! Call for a truce. Get together and compromise. Someone has to give in. Or has hate consumed your heart till it blinds you? You can do it. You have enough intelligent people between you. I am sure you can find solutions. Take the nation to heart. That is why you are in politics in the first place.

Focus on the people.

Focus on the economy.

I salute you. Sokong 100%. The economy is the most important thing right now. Every other country in the world is talking about ways to combat the credit crunch but we here have our leaders bickering amongst themselves of who could persuade the lawmakers to jump ship.

Come on, BN, PKR. Focus on us. The people. Focus on our economy. Please do your best for the people. Not just for your party.

Hear! Hear! I am with you 100%. If the politicians use their brains and hearts and ask themselves what they can and should really do for those of us who elected them, your post may not be neccessary.

Unfortunately, it is clear that they are not using their brains or hearts. Or worse they don't have them!

I pray that good sense will prevail. Like you said, an organisation where people cannot make ends meet will be unstable. Imagine a country with increasing number of people who cannot make ends meet?

Excellently put and about time, Lets hope that the politicians who reads this will have the humility to respond positively.

Agree with you wholeheartedly… looking at what happened lately, our political standard is being put to an unbelievable low..Yes..there are more urgent things for the politicians to look into like bringing up the economy.. get more investors and take care the welfare of Malaysian.. especially those who really needed..

The non-politician like me also can see the whole political scenario in Malaysia is becoming very childish and immature…if this continue happening, the Malaysia economy will be in ruins and the country in deep trouble..and looking at the cost of living is spiraling increased + instability of political scenario, I believe most people are concerned about their economy too…

All the best.. Hope they will listen you and I believe many will support you…

Man, Are you for real? Well, looking at your letter this morning, it seems that you have taken those who really need jobs to work in your company. Well done. I hope that the intention of the letter is sincere and not for the sake of promoting your company and get more businesses. Take it positively...I support you in highlighting these craps that happened in Malaysian Politics. Maybe they(those politicians) dont/havent realize of the real and more important issues that need to be resolved right now.

What you said in a full page advert is heart rendering to most common sense man on the street.
Hope this will catch th eeyes and hearts of those you are targeting specially the Ketuas of Politiks !

You should rank together with Zaid (Former De Facto Law Minister) as the top fair minds in Malaysia.

God will Bless you for sure. Keep up the good work !

I saw your (our, the Rakyat) plea in The Star today a full blown page N37 and I could not agree more.

The irony of having Malaysians politicians bombarding each other is not only gross to the point of vomiting, but I am really sadden that they do not take that effort and concentrate on bigger issues being endured by Malaysians.

Many who opt for VSS are now facing a bigger challenge to get a job.

Stop this bull of who can lead this country better. Focus on the real issue at hand. Find ways to help your Rakyat!

Thank you for your effort to bring this to the media

I wonder why your criticism of BN is so meek? You are tougher with Pakatan, but your criticism of BN is so weak. Why not explicate your point about what BN has done in Perak? Are you afraid to point out the truth about UMNO's dirt in Perak? Don't be scared.

Well said ... Its becoming power crazy and selfishness by our politicians. What would they know about hardship of the poor and average income group, when this politicians are getting easy money, and not doing much to people future.
I believe a new law should be implement, or if there is already .. that " if our politicians is not doing things right, they should be strip from their title and choose the right person. But to do this the TOP person shud be RIGHT n not DUMB n Crazy for power. Just like what they did for Perak, its too soon to take over. This ppl dont analys. They Act then Think(tat if they think). We need a major change in coming election and hope the young and a true malaysians to contest and take us to great height and together with the ppl like de facto law minister Zaid. Lets hope for the best.

AnonymousStranger said...

Mr. Zubedy, I would love to shake your hand and I admire your efforts, but I don't share the same optimism as my other fellow commentators.

Will there be change in Malaysia? I think there will be, not because our leaders had a sudden epiphany but because, in your own words, "Malaysians have no job to go to, no money to pay rent and no means to put food on the table."

And we only have ourselves to blame. We Malaysians are an apathetic lot! We and our "tidak apa" attitude. Only when we, our wives and our kids are hungry, will we be angry enough to have a voice to demand better from our thick-skulled politicians. I fear this crisis must get worse before any real change is to happen.

Will they ever have a conscience, for the many Saedahs, Samsuris, Alicias, Sudeshs in our midst while they pursue their agenda

These are the very people we help put in office...sigh! We have ourselves to blame, don't we?

Aniza said...

Well done and thank you.

You have expressed exactly what Malaysians feel and think.

Bravo.

Meor said...

I was pleasantly surprised to find your full page ad in the Star newspaper, and find it very brave that you "invested" (time, effort, money) in getting the message out.

I'll second your open letter. It's time our nation's leaders show the rakyat that they truly care for our welfare. It's time to focus on the economy, instead of who's ruling the different states. It's time to put aside political differences, to ensure that the right measures are taken to aid all those in need now.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling! I'll be spreading this post of yours to help spread the message that Malaysians care! Here's hoping our "leaders" take note.

Dear sir, I read the paper today and I think your letter of appeal is so cool. I hope your message will reach those politicians. There are just too much dramas these days. Everyone in the world is worried about the global economy crisis and they are more in their own charade.

Mr. Anas, I want to let you know that there are lots of people that are touched with what you have done. What you did, remember there are lots of people behind your back. Thanks a lot for what you have done in behalf of concerned Malaysians. May god bless you.

Hi Anas,

I like to THANK YOU for investing time and money in the publication of the letter of appeal to the Malaysian politicians in The Star today..

You speak the minds of all Malaysians. This is what we need the so-called Leaders to do instead of the power crazy war they launch on each other.

I hope these so-called Leaders understand that the country's economy is at stake here. Without a strong economy, what is there to govern.

Let's just hope this message is well absorbed by these politicians otherwise, we can only pray hard and endure all their silly power crazy quest and leave the country to rot...

TERIMA KASIH for taking this initiative on behalf of the Rakyat of Malaysia

For me...i just want a peacefull country to live in as everyone of us do...

I have seen the world and i know how it feels like alone in another country...i have seen their rituals and believes...despite i enjoyed the difference of a culture of another home...like Dorothy would say.."There is no place like Home"

A timely call to cease back stabbing and bickering over trivialities. This is childish politics that, after 51 years, we should be ashamed of. But more than a truce, both BN and PR should seriously evaluate their roles in bringing about values to our nation. Perhaps you can offer your service to them but I doubt they will listen to you. Yes, they will slap your back and say, 'Good Job' but go change the values of other organizations. Seriously the BN is beyond redemption, maybe PR has a glimmer of hope to learn your noble values. Anas,

You are scheduled to deliver a training to a team of in-house lawyers in a multinational this Friday, 6th March. I know this because I'm one of the team. It would have been my greatest pleasure to meet you but alas, I would be away in Singapore on the day of the training. This is indeed my loss because I have a sincere admiration for the man who has the courage to voice out what so many people feel in their hearts. Thank you for making the sacrifice on behalf of all Malaysians. If you ever need volunteers, please do contact me because I, too, believe in adding value in whatever way I can.

I pernah ikuti ceramah U ketika berkerja di sebuah hotel (Seremban). Support U 100% pasal hal ni. Mrk sepatutnya duduk berbincang dikabinet utk menjaga masalah rakyat sbb tu kita memilih mrk ketika pilihanraya. Bukan sekadar utk menegakkan status mrk shj. Sesiapa yg lebih berjaya membawa kebaikanlah yg akan selalunya kekal lama bukan setakat cuba menjatuhkan satu sama lain. Skrg ni naik menyampah nak tgk berita atau baca akhbar.

Wahai pemimpin Malaysia, cubalah dengar rayuan kami ini.....

Hi Mr.Anas,
Well said. But I don't think the politicians read newspaper. It got even worse today -- referring to Perak.
Or maybe they just can't read.

Dear Anas,

We hear you. I wrote this in response:

Anas Zubedy’s letter calling for a political truce last week resonated with many Malaysians.

Scores of ordinary citizens and their families are starting to feel the pinch of the economic crisis as wages are cut, jobs are lost and houses are repossessed. I can understand why they feel that politics is distracting the elected representatives from what should be their main task at hand: leading Malaysia forward through the crisis.

Anas, we hear you.

Yes, I do hope that you'd realize your dream of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would one day bersalam-salaman (and shake hands) and work together for the people and the country rather than their own parties.

It is my dream too!

yes, both sides should stop politicking, but we should not stop calling for accountability of past governance, or we'd be doomed to repeat them, 'truce' or not. thank goodness the federal opposition finally won significantly in five states (i don't recognise the illegitimate perak government) and are in the position to reveal the plundering of people's coffers or the incumbent would have continued their corrupt ways and we'd only be barking our suspicions instead of furnishing proof. if a truce is called, first the bn has to tell the civil servants that they work for the public and government of the day, so stop sabotaging the state governments' efforts to instill good governance.

Anas, I'm writing all the way from Tasmania, Australia as I read this. Being a student studying law who would come back to serve in Malaysia, my heart resonates with you and I admire your courage to write what you believe in and pay the full page advert!

You represent us Malaysians!

Mr. Anas,

What you've wrote has really gotten me viewing the politic issues seriously now. I've been ignoring them as I'm very tired listening and watching these politicians fighting over power. They're here to serve the rakyat and yet they 're acting like 5 years old over authority most embarrassing money politics. Bravo to you..brave enough to speak up.

A standing ovation for you.

Hope our politicians will not continue to be defensive and membongokkan diri sendiri with a million excuses of why they do the self-serving stuff they do when the little voices from the grassroots occasionally get past the barriers and float up to them. But I have a feeling they will continue refuse to look in the mirror to see their scabs and black hearts. Power does that to some. But in our politicians' case, to most.

Basically, they do not fear God's wrath, for what they do to us, for what they take from us, for what they deny us, for using their positions to justify filling up their own pockets and leaving us high and dry.

Our voices? The sound of wealth and power is far sweeter than the annoying sounds of the rakyat's pleas.

But we continue to hope, don't we? And have our hopes dashed. And forgive. And forget. And accept. And hope.

Do they ever learned from past mistakes? Even if they do read the plea would they take heed of it and turn a new leaf. Honestly and seriously, I doubts they would. These politicians are as good as 'forgone conclusion' or in our word 'gone case' breed and they are taking us along them to hell. Am I despair, you ask? No, because I know we are all helpless and hopeless as well. We would just tag along with them on the way to hellfire when they ruin this country lest your have an overseas hideout like Daim and other rich people. They have an escape plan, we don't. Am I a cynic? Maybe so after living in Malaysia for almost half a century. Most of all, I am a pragmatic person. Right now I am trying to figure out where I could migrate temporarily until the dust settle down after the bloodshed. Trust me, it won't be long with all these nonsense that are going on in this country. Hope? What hope? The politicians have gone from worse to worst in the last few months or so. What about you? Got any escape plan I could share, huh.

Best regards to your escape plan, buddy bro!

Yours truly,
Din of USA (Ulu Sepetang Area)
