A very touching piece Anas. Helps me to appreciate my mother even more, even though we did not have to undergo the hardships that your family went through. Your writings have definitely helped me to know a little of what the Quran says. "MT" :)

a beautiful piece!

truly, a mother is God's greatest gift to mankind..if only everyone realizes the fact, the world would be a much happier and a more beautiful place....which is why they say, " a mother can take care of ten children, but there's no guarantee that the ten children will be able to take care of one mother".

i love reading your pieces. they're very insightful, makes for very interesting reading!

Mom is amazing..

Assalamualaikum Anas,

A friend gave me the link to your blog about a week ago and I've been tuning on to it (& have enjoyed reading it) ever since. I've always appreciated (and continuously seek) things that would help to humble me - and allow me to see wider perspectives of life - yours is definately one of it. I guess what I'm tryin to say here is, through your reminiscings and frankness, you have touched a life.

A very good one Anas. Sometimes we just forget the wonderful things our parent has done for us, nothing that money can buy.
Lately your post has been inspiring me a lot and this blog has indeed added a lot of value to my life.

The thing about love, is we tend to take the ones we love for granted, parents especially. But the verse 17:23-24, my favorite surah, says it all. Show them love NOW, before it's too late.
Mine's a slightly different version, but holds the same meaning;

"Your Lord has decreed that you shall not serve other than Him, and honour your parents for as long as they live, one of them or both of them. You shall not speak harshly to them, nor mistreat them; you shall speak to them amicably, and lower for them the wings of humility and kindness and say, “My Lord, have mercy on them, for they have brought me up from infancy.” (17:23-24)

Your mom is an amazingly wonderful woman and mother. You are so lucky to have her :)

Again, you have not let us down with your writings....
