The Quran in numerous occasions call itself
“the guidance to mankind” (E.g. Quran 2:2). The central aim of the Quran is to
assist man create a workable, successful and happy social order based on
God-consciousness (Quran 2:5, 8:29, 15:45).
Man is created as a social animal. There is no
meaning of a society-less individual. Man, always lives in a society and for a
society to function even if its just a group of two individuals, communication
and interaction is key. From a Quranic standpoint, whenever there are two or
more individuals, God enters directly into the relationship between them (Quran
58:7) In other words, he is always present and as such we must take our
interaction seriously.
The Quran obviously place importance on
communication and interactions. Even when the foolish address us, we are guided
to say ‘peace’. Let me share with you 10 entries here.
All emphasis are mine to help readers focus on
a particular message.
1. ART THOU NOT aware that God knows all that is in the heavens and
all that is on earth? Never can there be
a secret confabulation between three persons without His being the fourth of
them, nor between five without His being the sixth of them; and neither between
less than that, or more, without His being with them wherever they may be.
But in the end, on Resurrection Day, He will make them truly understand what
they did: for, verily, God has full knowledge of everything. Quran 58:7
2. For, [true] servants of the Most Gracious are [only] they who walk gently on earth, and who,
whenever the foolish address them, reply
with [words of] peace; - Quran 3:95
3. ART
THOU NOT aware how God sets forth the
parable of a good word? [It is] like a good tree, firmly rooted, [reaching out]
with its branches towards the sky, yielding
its fruit at all times by its Sustainer's leave. And
[thus it is that] God propounds parables unto men,' so that they might bethink
themselves [of the truth]. And the
parable of a corrupt word is that of a corrupt tree, torn up [from its roots]
onto the face of the earth, wholly unable to endure. Quran 14:24-26
4. AND
TELL My servants that they should speak
in the most kindly manner [unto those who do not share their beliefs]:
verily, Satan is always ready to stir up discord between men - for, verily,
Satan is man's open foe! Quran 17:53
5. But
when you are greeted with a greeting [of peace], answer with an even better greeting, or [at least] with the like
thereof. Verily, God keeps count indeed of all things. Quran 4:86
6. And
if thou [must] turn aside from those [that are in want, because thou thyself
art] seeking to obtain thy Sustainer's grace and hoping for it, at
least speak unto them with gentle speech.- Quran 17:28
7. And
it was by God's grace that thou [O Prophet] didst deal gently with thy followers:
for if thou hadst been harsh and hard of heart, they would indeed have
broken away from thee. Pardon them, then, and pray that they be forgiven.
And take counsel with them in all matters of public concern; then, when thou
hast decided upon a course of action, place thy trust in God: for, verily, God
loves those who place their trust in Him. - Quran 3:159
8. For
thy Sustainer has ordained that you shall worship none but Him. And do good unto [thy] parents. Should one
of them, or both, attain to old age in thy care, never say "Ugh" to
them or scold them, but [always] speak unto them with reverent speech, -
Quran 17:23
9. O
YOU who have attained to faith! Do not
enter houses other than your own unless you have obtained permission and
greeted their inmates. This is [enjoined upon you] for your own good, so
that you might bear [your mutual rights] in mind. Quran 24:27
10. O
YOU who have attained to faith! No men
shall deride [other] men: it may well be that those [whom they deride] are
better than themselves; and no women
[shall deride other] women: it may well be that those [whom they deride]
are better than themselves. And neither
shall you defame one another, nor insult one another by [opprobrious] epithets:
evil is all imputation of iniquity after [one has attained to] faith; and they
who [become guilty thereof and] do not repent - it is they, they who are
evildoers! O you who have attained
to faith! Avoid most guesswork [about
one another] for, behold, some of [such] guesswork is [in itself] a sin; and do
not spy upon one another, and neither allow yourselves to speak ill of one
another behind your backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his
dead brother? Nay, you would loathe it! And be conscious of God. Verily, God is
an acceptor of repentance, a dispenser of grace! Quran 49:11 -12
Peace, anas
